REVIEW & SWATCHES | Etude House Drawing Eye Brow in #3 Brown

7:30 AM

Ah, reunited with an old friend. I got this for the first time June last year in Japan and instantly fell in love with it. I remember trying this in my hotel room and thinking "wow, I need like, 5 more of this." Well, I didn't get 5 more (Etude House is apparently rare in Tokyo) but I did get one in Jakarta, 3 times the original price.

Recently I got two Etude House vouchers so I thought I would give this another shot. Previously, I bought #2 Gray Brown and it was okay. It wasn't as good as #3, but it was decent. #3 never really left my heart so I finally bought another one!

It kind of annoys me how crazy EH prices go up in Jakarta. They're no different from high-end brands. The Rosy Tint Lips is around $30-$32 when it's only 8,500 KRW there. Insanity. EH should be cheap! Strangely, high-end brands cost less here compared to other countries. So it's a little bit justified.

Product Description

What it is

This is a pencil type eyebrow that fills in between brow hairs.

How to apply

  1. Fill in between hairs with wider surface.
  2. Draw brow line and delicate edges with slimmer surface.

Ingredients

Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Hydrogenated Coco-Glycerides, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Zinc Stearate, Stearic Acid, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Polyglyceryl-2 Triisostearate, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Tocopherol, Hexylene Glycol, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides, Iron Oxides, Iron Oxides

Packaging

The packaging is something you'd find in typical Korean brow pencils. It's a double-ended brow pencil with a twist. The pencil itself is retractable so you don't have to sharpen it. On one side it's convenient, on another side, pencils like this usually has very little product. This one only has like an inch of product!

My favorite brow pencils are square-shaped ones. The rectangular tip makes it easy to mimic brow hairs, especially for straight brows. For this product, the tip is rectangular but it's also kind of like a mini triangle. The thinner end is great for outlining, while the thicker end is better for filling the gaps between your brow hairs.

The spoolie at the end is a major plus point. Considering the soft formula of this pencil, a spoolie is almost a necessity. Works great for really blending everything out.

Swatches

On to the long-awaited part, swatches. I got #3 Brown, and it's a warm-toned medium brown with a hint of red. I would say it's an in-between brown that's not too ashy nor red. For me, who has dark hair, it's still very wearable even though it's slightly lighter than my hair. I do think people with jet black hair suit grey-ish browns better than warm browns like this. Actually, I'm wearing it in my side picture. Anyway, here's the hand swatch:

How it looks on my brows:

Since the pencil's lighter than my brow hairs, I like to blend it out with Etude's Color My Brows in #1, so it looks a lot more natural and overall more flattering. The result is super nice!

Performance

The texture is really, really soft. Almost too soft. I prefer harder formulas as they give perfect color payoff, but softer formulas like this are easier to apply. I do like the application with this. I only have 30 minutes to get ready in the morning and doing my brows in less than 5 minutes is no easy task. With this, it's easier to get the shape I want without much time and effort. The formula is waxy and glides on smoothly without being chalky. The color payoff is great! For me, it's the perfect amount. Some people do say it's too sheer for them, but it depends on your preference.

As for the longevity, I wear this from 6 AM to 3, sometimes 5 PM and there's no fading whatsoever. Since I have really oily brows, that's saying a lot. I also have bangs, and usually the inner brows fade quickly but I've never had issues with this one. So, longevity is no problem with this!

All in All

Overall, I think it's a bang for your buck... only if you get it at the original price (like it's only $3). But it's a good brow pencil, much better than its fellow counterparts from other Korean brands. I wish it had more product though. The quality of this product is top-notch, so I do recommend you get one when you're stopping by Etude or doing an online-shopping spree! They recently came out with a new shade which is a really light blondish brown. You can get it at Etude House, Amazon, and eBay for cheap.

Oh, I just got Etude's Tint My Brows Gel!!! SO EXCITED TO TRY IT OUT. Review's gonna come up in a short while!

With lots of love, goodbye.

    1. Hi! This color (#3) would be perfect for you since my hair color's similar to yours. If you like darker brows, you can try #2 Dark Brown instead. Depends on your preference. :)
