REVIEW & SWATCHES | Etude House Lovely Cookie Blusher in #9 Sweetberry Muffin

8:46 AM

I feel like blush is something that people like to brush off (no pun intended) or not really think about. But there are some people who take blush too seriously, that they end up overdoing it and looking ridiculous, not flattering. I think blush is very personal, just like foundation. There are lots of hits and misses, but when you find the right blush, it can give the most beautiful finish to your makeup.

As someone with very oily and acne-prone skin, I still have some hyperpigmentation and redness on my cheeks. I do my foundation, concealer, etc to cover all that redness and sad bits. When a blush doesn't work on me, it just makes me look red all over again and makes my marks more prominent than before. But when a blush does work, it gives a natural flush that blurs out my imperfections and gives off a clean, fresh look.

Being a long-time viewer of Pony, I've seen the Etude House Lovely Cookie Blusher in #6 Grapefruit Jelly a few times, and in all of those times she loved the product. She also mentioned this in her Instagram, saying that it's her all-time favorite blusher. When Pony praises a product, then you go buy it!!! So I finally went and bought the blusher in a different shade, which is #9 Sweetberry Muffin. #6 Grapefruit Jelly looks amazing but I'm taking a break from peachy, coral-y blushers and have been loving baby pinks instead.

How to apply

Tap powder puff onto blusher 1-2 times and lightly apply onto cheeks.

Packaging

As always, the packaging is adorable. There's nothing like Etude for cute packaging. The blush comes in a round plastic packaging. It closes securely but I don't think it's sturdy, especially for travelling. I feel like the packaging would break apart if I accidentally dropped it. Oh, there used to be a sticker with the shade name and everything on the back but I messed it up so I took it all off.

Inside, there's a puff that's surprisingly hard, a clear plastic film to separate the blush and the puff, and the blush itself. The puff is okay, I've used it a few times when I didn't have a brush with me. I find that the puff picks up very little product and more blush pigments stick to the puff instead of your cheeks. Because the puff isn't very bouncy, blending can also be an issue! So. 100% I recommend applying this with a synthetic brush. Nevertheless, the puff is uber-cute.

Swatches

I got this in the shade #9 Sweetberry Muffin, which is described as a "no pearl, lovely strawberry milk color." Basically it's a semi-matte medium baby pink with neutral undertones. This is a color that will suit anyone apart from the deepest skin tones, since it can look a bit ashy.

The blush has no shimmer in it, but it does reflect light. It really does reflect light. First, I thought it was a bit gimmicky but it really does! The finish is powdery but satiny, almost glossy depending on your lighting.

Performance

First, the pigmentation. When I first dipped my brush into the pan, I was honestly surprised at how much pigment was picked up. (Once again, I recommend using a brush!) On my cheeks, I only needed 1 layer to get the opacity I wanted. The formula is buttery and smooth, almost like a cream blush. The finish is beautiful, it really does live up to its claim. The blush blurs my pores and imperfections, it almost looks airbrushed. But it can run a bit chalky if you apply one too many layers.

It also claims to be sebum-controlling but so far I haven't noticed any changes to my oiliness. Depending on your activities, this can either last very long or very horribly. If I'm not sweating this can last 7-9 hours but this disappears whenever I blot. So every time I go out I always bring this along with a brush for retouching. One more thing, from swatches online I think this blush is the perfect dupe for MAC's Well Dressed! Seriously, the hand, cheeks, and even the paper swatches look exactly the same.

All in All

Overall, I think this blush is definitely a must-have Korean beauty product, aside from the cute packaging, the quality is super! The only downside is the lasting power, which may be a problem for those with oily skin, but won't be an issue for those with normal to dry skin. You can get Etude's Lovely Cookie Blusher at Etude House. I tried looking all over Amazon, Ebay, etc but they were all out of stock for this shade. You can get other shades at eBay, Jolse, ibuybeauti, and Gmarket.

Anyway, that marks the end of the review! Here's an incredibly low quality selfie of mine wearing the blush. The blush doesn't really show up here but I'm gonna post it anyway. I HATE HOW CRAPPY IPHONE'S FRONT CAMERA IS. I still use an iPhone 5, can't wait to upgrade. I'm also thinking of buying a Samsung NX Mini.  Ah, the things we do for good selfies.
