REVIEW & SWATCHES | MAKE UP FOR EVER Ultra HD Foundation in Y225

10:14 AM

In my beauty wishlist a few months back, I mentioned that I was in search of the perfect foundation, and specifically wanted MUFE's Ultra HD Foundation. Well, I finally got my hands on one!!! After a lot of contemplation on which foundation I should get, I decided to get MUFE's. I was torn between this, Too Faced's Born This Way, and NARS' All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation. Turns out that Sephora ran out of Born This Way, and there's no NARS counter in Indonesia (I know, it sucks) so the Ultra HD seemed to be the best option.

Product Description

Created for the very latest high-definition technologies of the film and TV industry, ULTRA HD advanced formulas look invisible on 4K camera and to the naked eye. Perfect for the makeup pros and for you. ULTRA HD foundation feels like a second skin, but still provides medium coverage, and the light-diffusing formula looks natural and makes skin look flawless and feel moisturized. Exclusive 4K Complex guarantees invisible, natural and comfortable makeup. The fluid texture blends in seamlessly and conceals imperfections to unify the skin’s texture. Great for all skin types, and features a full-range of shades to cover all skintones.

Packaging

The foundation comes in a glossy black box, inside you have the foundation in a plastic bottle. I have to mention how I absolutely love the sleek, professional packaging. The bottle cap does leave fingerprints, though not very obvious. The foundation has a pump, which is a HUGE plus point. I like to make sure that my makeup is as hygienic as possible. The pump doesn't disperse too much product, so I don't have to worry about wasting it.

Swatches

The lady at Sephora matched me to Y235 at first, but something about it just didn't look right so she swatched Y225 so my jawline and it matched really well. Oh, also SEPHORA'S LIGHTING SUCKS. All the shades looked really similar and the difference between Y235 and Y225 was barely visible. Anyway, you can see how Y225 matches the back of my hand perfectly.

Performance

I used about half a pump for half of my face and I blended it using a Beauty Blender. Upon blending I was surprised at how effortless it was to blend. Maybe because the formula is very liquid-y, the blending was seamless. It almost feels like a serum instead because of how lightweight it felt. It felt like water! The finish was amazing, it literally looked like skin, unlike other foundations that promise to so. It covered my pores really well and leaves a satin, sheer coverage. It adhered to my skin really well. I ran my fingers over my face throughout the day to see if it would transfer easily, but it didn't. I do have an issue with the smell, it smells like melted plastic and clay (I really have no idea how to describe it) but for me, it would've been nice if they added a little fragrance. I couldn't get the smell out of my head and it lingered for 2 hours.

In the picture I had my moisturizer and sunscreen on, the sunscreen did leave a slight whitecast. I believe that the sunscreen altered the overall look of the foundation, because my face was obviously lighter than my neck. I haven't played around with this foundation ever since, so I might update this post after I've tried it on without sunscreen.

As for the finish, needless to say it looks just like skin. The downfall of this foundation is the coverage, although it did cover the redness around my nose, it barely covered my hyperpigmentation. My skin is my biggest insecurity, it doesn't look too bad on camera, but I think about it every single day. Honestly, I didn't expect it to be so low in coverage, I knew it was going to be sheer but not that sheer! On the other hand, the finish is wonderful. I don't know how to describe the finish perfectly, but it just looks like you have healthier skin. FYI, I've heard complains about how the foundation clings to dry patches and looks gross. I can't say so myself because my face is a fried egg.

Full-face application.
On my face:
  • The Saem Eco Earth Power Perfection Waterproof Sunblock
  • Shu Uemura Hard Formula in Acorn
  • Peripera Peri's Tint Water in Strawberry Juice
  • MUFE Ultra HD Foundation in Y225
  • Lenses: GEO Super Nudy Grey
I didn't set the foundation with powder, and didn't use any concealer because I wanted to see how the foundation held up by itself. It looked great during the first two hours, but after that the foundation started to look patchy and cracked a little on my T-zone, especially on my chin. But it still looked pretty good until 5 or so hours. My T-zone was shiny and looked cakey on my chin and forehead. My cheeks looked good throughout the day. For those with oily skin, I recommend using a mattifying primer underneath and setting the foundation with powder or setting spray.

Fortunately, the foundation didn't oxidize at all on me, but some people say otherwise. It really depends on your skin, another man's trash is another man's treasure.

All in All

I still haven't completely made my mind up on this, honestly. I need to play around with it more. But my first impression was pretty good, probably because I've never had a foundation so natural-looking. I love the formula, hate the coverage, in okay terms with the staying power, and not sure with everything else. Again, I need to experiment with it more to know if it justifies the price tag.

This was expensive, as all MUFE products are. I got it for Rp. 650.000,- or around $50. You can get yours at Sephora and MAKE UP FOR EVER

Until next time! (The last time I said something similar I didn't post anything for 2 months (I'm terribly sorry)).
